Reiki Healing Arts

  What is  REIKI?
Reiki is an ancient and profoundly simple system of healing techniques that addresses both chronic and acute conditions, gently and powerfully promotes balance among all the body's systems and the regenerative process of body and mind.  Reiki is considered to be a Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM).  Reiki is most effective when performed by a Level 3 Reiki master, but can be used as a self healing aid as well.

  How does it work?
Reiki practitioners use their body's own electrical / magnetic energy, focused through their hands, to clear the paths of the clients central nervous system, thereby allowing the signals from the nerve endings to the brain to be received more clearly.  This allows the brain to make better decisions on how to activate the endocrine system to better handle the physical need at hand.  This is how Reiki can aid in healing or prevent the brain from misreading unclear nerve impulses and responding in the wrong manner.

  REIKI in Professional Health Care
Reiki is currently being used by a growing number of hospitals and health care facilities all over the world.  Reiki compliments all medical treatment, psychological counseling, and physical therapy, aiding in the healing process and preventing disease and illness.

  Recent Research
Current studies of Reiki show significant reduction of pain, including cancer pain, following treatment or injury.  Most patients report increased feelings of relaxation and a sense of well-being.  One study cited improvements in immune and nervous system function, and increased mobility in patients suffering from multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, and lupus.  At Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire, surgical patients required less pain medications and had shorter stays with quicker recoveries.

What's a REIKI treatment session like?
During a Reiki session, clients lie on a table fully clothed.  Wear light, comfortable, loose clothing, and little or no jewelry for a treatment session.  The Reiki practitioner will gently place their hands on set points on your head, front and back torso, legs, and feet. Little or no pressure is applied from the hands, but clients may feel warmth, tingling, or itching over the treatment area.  Most clients feel nothing during the treatment session, but afterwards enjoy a sense of calm and well-being.  Some clients will feel a need to cry or release tension while others will fall asleep.  Please let your practitioner know if anything feels uncomfortable to you.  Reiki sessions are very flexible and customized to meet the client needs.

  Talk with your practitioner
Your Reiki practitioner is a professional. It is encouraged that you talk openly about your concerns, doubts, and hopes.  Be sure to let your practitioner know of your physical condition, and your emotional, mental, or spiritual needs before beginning a treatment.  All information is kept confidential and treatment records will be kept for analysis and documenting progress.  Your practitioner will probably appreciate a follow up email regarding how the Reiki treatment affected you and your thoughts and suggestions for future treatments.
